Addicted to Method

Veterans of the underground pop and lowbrow scenes, Drew Maillard and Joanna Mulder work in very deliberate graphic styles, with approaches to mark making that translate seamlessly into the methods and aesthetics of printmaking. In true DIY punk style, Drew and Joanna brought unconventional methods to the print medium, challenging the traditions of relief and intaglio printmaking. Joanna began by exploring the use of pyrography for both intaglio and relief, and quickly mastered the technique of dry point on Plexiglas. Drew, with a background in illustration explores the concept of the diagrammatic or exploded print, each layer utilizing a different printmaking process.
